    Fritz Kreisler was a famous violinist who was in a car accident that left him both deaf and blind towards the later years of his life.

    But not for the rest of his life. He eventually recovered enough to write (And record) one of his last great pieces, the Viennese Fantasia. (My source: the CD jacket of the remixed album of his recording of that piece among many others.)
