How did the inhabitants of Brussels, Belgium, get their nickname of "chicken-guzzlers"?

    Question #100740. Asked by Flem-ish. (Nov 03 08 2:20 AM)

During the attack on the castle of Gaasbeek in 1388 the Bruxellois consumed so many chickens that they acquired the nickname of 'Kiekefretters' or 'chicken-guzzlers'. The army of the time was known for taking care of their stoimachs, and this was just one example.
