    24601 was the prisoner number of Jean Valjean in Victor Hugo's 'Les Miserables'. Even though he wished to be buried in a pauper's coffin, he was buried (June 1885) and laid in state under the Arc de Tiomphe and was buried in the Pantheon

    Yes, Victor Hugo laid in state beneath the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. In addition, his body was placed within triple coffins and then in a majestic catafalque fitted with a huge monogram. See picture below.
