In the U.S. It is the General of the Army or General of the Air Force. It can also be the Fleet Admiral for the Navy. There have been 4 Army 5-star Generals, technically six. There have been 4 5-star Admirals, and 1 5-star General of the Air Force. The sixth technical 5-star General is the same General to be the Air Forces first 5-star General, Hap Arnold. He is the only person to be technically promoted twice to 5-star status. First when the Air Force was known as the Army Air Corp and then again when the Air Force became a seperate branch in 1947.
