    When did Liverpool cease to be a part of Lancashire? I want to say Lancashire gave the world the Beatles. Can I say this?

    1974. "The county was subject to a significant boundary reform in 1974,which removed Liverpool and Manchester with most of their surrounding conurbations to form part of the metropolitan counties of Merseyside and Greater Manchester."

    Yes, you can say Lancashire gave the world the Beatles, since they formed in 1960--14 years before the boundary change. :-)
