I cannot find anything stating that Oprah Winfrey is currently estranged from her mother, Vernita Lee.
She lived up until age 6 with her grandmother in Mississippi, then spent seven years living with her mother in Milwaukee. She faced sexual abuse during that time and acted out, getting into trouble and eventually getting pregnant at 14. (The child died shortly after birth.) She eventually went to Nashville and lived with her father, Vernon Winfrey, who made education a priority for her.
