    		They are all homophones of another word with a totally different meaning. At least one of the words is a geographic location:

    Maine (U.S. state)- main
    Greece (country)- grease
    Rome (Italian city)- roam
    Nice (French city)- neice
    Laos (country)- Louse
    Wales (country)- wails
    Nome (town in Norway, Alaska, Texas, etc)- gnome
    Saul (town in French Guiana, Ireland, UK)- sole
