His birthplace sounds like a mafia headquarters in the heartland, his middle name sounds like a rabbi, his shrill wife was nobly nicknamed. Where did this dark horse die?

Question #101492. Asked by queproblema. (Dec 05 08 7:47 PM)

President Warren G. Harding died at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco at 7:35 p.m. on August 2, 1923.

He was born on November 2, 1865 near Marion, Ohio (in a town now called Blooming Grove, Ohio). The "Marion County Mafia" was a prank pulled by two South Pittsburg,TN youths in January, 2008.

He was the "dark horse" candidate of the Republican Party in the 1920 presidential election.
"Harding was a true "dark horse" candidate, winning the Republican Party nomination due to the political machinations of his friends after the nominating convention had become deadlocked."

His middle initial "G" stands for Gamaliel and is the Greek form of the Hebrew name meaning "God is my reward or recompense". It is also the name of a historically important Rabbi.

Finally, he nicknamed his wife the former Florence Kling, the "Duchess".

    Excellent, Edmund!

One detail more: he was born NEAR Marion, Ohio. Can you find exactly where? (Think "Petit Caporal".)

Asking what he died of might be against board rules since no one knows for sure.

Le petit caporal refers to Napoleon Bonaparte who was born in Corsica.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Napoleon_I_of_France

This source says that President Harding was born near Corsica now Blooming Grove, in Morrow County, Ohio.

Also, in my first post I wrote that Gamaliel means "God is my reward or recompense." That was taken from the wiki site below and another site.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamaliel_(disambiguation)
    http://dictionary.infoplease.com/gamaliel

However, some sites say that it means "God's reward or the recompense of God" and even "camel of God."

Yes, Corsica was the birthplace I was looking for...which conjures up the mafia.
