Born in Castile, Gonzalo Jiménez de Cisneros changed his given name to Francisco when he became a Franciscan friar.
    (Note the alternate spelling.)

Not to be confused with the Spanish conquistador of Colombia, Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada, for whom a major thoroughfare in Bogota is named.

The cardinal lived from 1436-1517 and was a devout ascetic who may well have sincerely believed he was doing both God and man a favor by forcing baptisms.

The conquistador lived from 1495–1579 and founded the city of Bogotá during his greedy quest for the legendary El Dorado.

I'm more familiar with the latter and was merely exploring the reason for the alternate spellings.
