    What is Canadian Raising? Please include sound examples.

    		It's the pattern of speaking (accent), in which dipthongs are pronounced differently than in standard American English. It is not restricted to Canada; the dialect is also prevalent in New England, Michigan and Minnesota. It effects words with an 'ai' (I) or 'ow' (ou) sound, such as house or about - this is why people who don't speak with Canadian raising hear Canadians saying "a-boat" or "a-boot" instead of about.
