    Isaac Ronnie Bord of Georgetown, Delaware took out a patent for an adjustable flat horizontal surface for the pressing of undergarments, garments and bed linen on February 23 1861.

    The person usually credited with its invention is Afro-American Sarah Boone. She patented the ironing board on April 26th 1892.
