With eggs, walnuts and honey the Romans made some kind of nut cake which may be considered as the precursor of nougat. What was their Latin name for it?

Torrone is the Italian, and perhaps the original, version of nougat candy.
To the Romans themselves, nougat candy was known as “cuppedia,” meaning the desire for delicate food

    Or,

"It is believed that the idea of mixing almonds and honey dates back to the Greeks who had been producing the “Nôgalon” in Marseille to replace the Romans' "Nux Gatum" or "Nougu" made with walnuts. That could explain the name of the Montelimar candies, "nougat" derivating from the Latin word for walnut, "nux".
