In the latter part of the first millenium an Anglo-Saxon clearing in the woods became not only the home of royalty, but the scene of a bit of their hanky-panky. Much later a duke's palace was built there, from whose descendants sprang modern-day royals who continue the soap opera. Who was the man who painted a young woman allegedly embowered there by her royal lover?

Yes, 22, and very nice links!
(After posting I realized the art reference was vague, and I'd left out the Woodstock Festival I'd intended to entwine! So much for late-night posting.)
Any number of people have painted this legendary figure who plays so prominently in the tales of medieval courtly love. The painting I actually had in mind is by William Bell Scott and pictures her amidst the roses.
