    Greetings edmund80.

Your question has revealed an aspect of Greek mythology I didn't know about.

Evidently Hermes http://www.theoi.com/olympios/hermes.html had a mortal lover called Krokos http://www.paghat.com/saffronmyth.html whom as you say Hermes accidentally killed.

It so happens that Hermes the French designer http://www.wikipedia.com markets a bag called the Birkin Krokos.

So the friend of Hermes was Krokos giving the name to our beautiful flower the Crocus from which Saffron is harvested.

Excellent! Hermes was apparently one busy god, judging from the list of his consorts (Crocus/Krokos just being one of them) and children.
