Many geese species mate for life as documented by Konrad Lorenz, indeed a goose will go into pathological mourning if its mate dies. Some owl and eagle species are also known to mate for life. This bond, though strong and long lasting, doesn't indicate total fidelity however, many will have 'affairs' on the side. Up to ten percent of chicks raised have been found by DNA to have a different father.
