How has Hasbro's game Clue changed?

    Question #102490. Asked by star_gazer. (Jan 20 09 9:34 PM)

Among several changes, the major ones are that the mansion is updated and modern, with new rooms like a spa, a theatre and a guesthouse. The weapons are also different, and there are nine of them instead of six. And the characters are different - Miss Scarlet was given a first name (Cassandra) and Colonel Mustard is not a colonel, for instance.

According to the AP, the new Clue is updated to fit in with “tabloid culture”. The six characters’ last names remain the same, but their first names and bios have been updated. For example, Miss Scarlet is now Kasandra Scarlet, a famous actress often featured in tabloids. And Mr. Green is now Jacob Green, an African-American “with all the ins.”
Colonel Mustard is now Jack Mustard, an ex-football player. Professor Plum is now a video game designer. And here is the greatest part of all, each character now has a special power to help them solve clues. But wait, there’s more. No more revolver, lead pipe or wrench–instead we have a dumbbell, trophy or poison. Clue has even gotten nouveau riche on us. There’s now a spa, theater and a guest house. Mr. Boddy’s classy, beautiful mansion wasn’t good enough. They made it a McMansion!

We call it Cluedo - presumably from clue + ludo. I prefer it as it was.

Yes, Cluedo is the original name and Waddingtons brought it out first. Believe it or not, it was invented by a solicitor's clerk (someone can translate that into American) who was also a part time clown. (Quite possible - I know a church organist who is also a clown.)

Translated into American, just law clerk or possibly paralegal (not quite the same as a law clerk, I think, but pretty close).

Qp's never played this game, but if she studied that page she'd score higher in the hourlies.

Part-time clowns? Qp was fetched from the Seattle airport last summer by her brother who was sporting a red nose like this one:
