What is the oldest board game known to man?

It's very hard to answer this, as the origins of many games are lost in the mists of time. (I allow myself a cliche now and then.) One of these is Merrills, or Nine Men's Morris. 'Boards' for this have been seen carved on rocks.

Another is Go (a favourite of mine at school). (No, that's NOT establishing an early date.) This is also simple in rules and extremely complex in play. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Go_(game) Both will predate chess, as they use much simpler equipment. As to actual dates, they could well go back before writing - and without records, who knows?
