    What was invented first, the fitted carpet or the vacuum cleaner, and if it was the fitted carpet, how were they cleaned?

    		The fitted carpet was invented first. Before the invention of the vacuum cleaner, and even sometime after, carpets were cleaned with manual carpet sweepers (sometimes no more than brushes).
