    From where do we get the label of "greasy spoon" for an inexpensive diner?

    The origin is in Britain in the 20th century, where the phrase was used to describe a restaurant or cafe where most of the food served was greasy and fattening.

    Greasy spoon is a colloquial term for the archetypal British cafe (pronounced "caff"). The name is used to imply a less-than-rigorous approach to hygiene and dishwashing. The term appears to date from 1925.
