The now not very famous author of a very famous poem penned a follow-up threatening violence to anyone who quoted his prior work. Which songbird is connected to this colourful episode?

Frank Gelett Burgess wrote a poem about a purple cow in a magazine called 'The Lark' in 1895.
"I never saw a purple cow
I never hope to see one;
But I can tell you, anyhow,
I'd rather see than be one!"
Two years later he wrote, in the same magazine,
"Ah, yes, I wrote the "Purple Cow"—
I'm Sorry, now, I wrote it;
But I can tell you Anyhow
I'll Kill you if you Quote it!"

Yay!! for MaggieG. Many people have heard the original poem - but never known it wasn't by A. Non or T. Radd. Burgess should also be notable as the originator of the word blurb. What would we do without it? And when you consider the poem, there is a certain philosophy contained in it...
