How many drops make a dash in cooking?

Question #10362. Asked by Maggie. (Feb 12 01 2:35 PM)

    Hey Maggie, what's cooking?
A few grains, pinch, dash, etc. (dry) - Less than 1/8 tsp
    A dash (liquid) - A few drops

Now, what is a few? I usually say more than 2, less than 5. Start with less, then give it a taste. You can always add more. It's tough getting too much back into the bottle.

A few is usually 3. If it is a dash, we are talking about a small amount, for taste. With already cooked products, you can usually start with one drop, taste an proceed from there. With raw items, you might just stick with three and change the recipe the next time you make it if you are not pleased with the result.
