Which countries do not allow the hijab in public schools?

Question #103669. Asked by author. (Mar 09 09 9:31 AM)

France since 2004, 8 states of Germany, Tunisia since 1981, and Turkey since 1997.

Many other countries have restriction on the hijab, but these are the only countries with complete bans in schools and universities.

You should also add Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.

In Trinidad and Tobago, two Caribbean islands that have large Muslim populations, the Catholic, Anglican, Presbyterian, Baptist and Hindu boards of education issued a joint statement prohibiting Muslim girls-who are assigned to their state-supported schools-from wearing Hijab to class.

Amazingly, countries whose populations are predominantly Muslim are not immune to this trend. Indeed, it seems they have led the charge:

For many years, Turkey, followed more recently by Algeria and Tunisia, has had a prohibition on wearing Hijab.

Egypt, up until a few weeks ago, also forbade women students to wear scarves. Morocco forbade its citizens living in France to join protests against Hijab strictures there.

I would like some more information about Algeria. I don't think the hijab (or scarf) is prohibited in the public schools there.
Here is a Wiki quote (which maybe is outdated because of the development in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan).

    Quote:
Turkey and Tunisia are the only Muslim countries where the law prohibits the wearing of hijab in government buildings, schools, and universities.
