Why is a cream cracker so called, when there is no cream involved?

The ingredients for cream crackers (from Jacobs) make no mention of cream; all they contain is flour, vegetable oil, salt, sodium bicarbonate) and yeast.
The official response from Jacobs is:
"The name Cream Crackers refers to the method in which the mixture is creamed during manufacture."
