In the series finale of the American version of 'Life on Mars' a female on Earth told Sam Tyler and his fellow astronauts that President Obama was seeing her sick father. Assuming that the father was current president Barack Obama, could either of his daughters be U.S. President in the year 2035?

Wouldn't that make Malia 37 in 2035?

Well the election would be in 2032, so she would not yet be 35 when announcing her candidacy.
Of course, she still *could* be president in 2035, if she were vice-president and the elected president were unable to fufill his/her duties.

How about a resignation of the vice president (a la Spiro Agnew) occurring in (or after) 2033, at which time she would be eligible to be appointed as a replacement VP; follow this by the death of the President, and voila!
No reference, just an attempt to circumvent literalism.

Technically, looney_tunes...that wouldn't work:
The Twelfth Amendment states that "no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States." Thus, to serve as Vice President, an individual must:
Be a natural-born U.S. citizen;
Not be younger than 35 years old; and
Have lived in the U.S. for at least 14 years.[5]
Have not served two terms as President of the United States.

Given a birthdate in 1998, Malia Ann would be 35 during 2033, at which time she would meet the age requirement for appointment as a replacement vice-president after a mid-term resignation or death. (I am assuming she would also meet the other constitutional requirements.) Subsequent removal of the president would allow her to proceed to becoming president despite not having met the age requirement at the time of the previous election. The trick is to use vice-presidential appointment rather than election.
'The 25th Amendment also made provisions for a replacement in the event that the Vice President died in office, resigned, or succeeded to the presidency. The original Constitution had no provision for selecting such a replacement, so the office of Vice President would remain vacant until the beginning of the next presidential and vice presidential terms. This issue had arisen most recently with the assassination of President Kennedy on November 22, 1963, and was rectified by section 2 of the 25th Amendment.
Section 2 of the 25th Amendment provides that "Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress." Gerald Ford was the first Vice President selected by this method, after the resignation of Vice President Spiro Agnew in 1973; after succeeding to the Presidency, Ford nominated Nelson Rockefeller as Vice President.'

Oops...you're absolutely right...providing the appointment or swearing in aligns properly with Malia's 35th birthday. Nevertheless, this is all a moot issue as Malia wants to be an actress when she grows up:
Michelle Obama told CBS’s “The Early Show” in October not only that Malia wants to be an actress when she grows up and Sasha wants to sing or dance, but also that her girls love “Hannah Montana.”

Hold it...that might further ensure she'll be President in 2035.
