Note in the article it quotes Lillee as saying if "the Wild Thing" puts it all together it wouldn't surprise me if he bowled that 170km/h ball. They're dreaming IMO. The fasted as stated is Akhtar's mark of 161.3 km then Lee is second at at 160.8 km.

Australian fastest bowler Shaun Tait aims to claim the world record for the fastest delivery ever delivered, currently held by Pakistani paceman Shoaib Akhtar, on the bouncy WACA wicket during the third Test against India, which began on Wednesday.

Tait had come close to breaking Akhtar's mark of 161.3 km per hour by bowling at 160km/h last year and feels he bowled even quicker when there was no speed gun in Australia's Twenty20 demolition of New Zealand last December.

"I'd like to have a crack at Shoaib's record and it would be nice to knock it off," Tait was quoted as saying by The Daily Telegraph.

"I've bowled at 160km/h before and there is no reason why I can't go quicker. There is a good possibility that I can bowl at that (world record) speed, especially if I go out there not thinking about it."

Former Australian paceman Dennis Lillee also believes that Tait was capable of being quicker than Akhtar and in fact could bowl at 170km/h at WACA.

"Tait, on a good day putting it all together, it would not surprise me if he bowled that 170km/h ball," Lillee said. But Tait is not sure if he can rise up to Lillee's expectation.
