If everybody in the world were to get a square meter of personal space, could they all fit in Iceland?

Question #104595. Asked by foosyerdoos. (Apr 10 09 4:09 PM)

    I should think so.
    Iceland has 103,000 sq.km, which is 103,000,000,000 sq.m.
The population of the earth is 6-7,000,000,000.

Iceland is the world's 18th largest island, and Europe's second largest island following Britain. The main island is 101,826 km² but the entire country is 103,000 km² (39,768.5 sq mi) in size, of which 62.7% is tundra. Lakes and glaciers cover 14.3%; only 23% is vegetated.

Plenty of space then! The world's not as busy as I thought.
Oh, and it would be a good party if everybody took a bottle, and there's already plenty of ice for the drinks.

I don't want a bit that's too steep. Quite a lot of Iceland is rather too up and down. And there are quite a few bits that erupt, too. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iceland
