    Why did the owner of the house commit suicide in the original 'Alone in the Dark'?

    		In 1925, Jeremy Hartwood, a noted artist and the owner of the Louisiana mansion Derceto, has committed suicide by hanging himself. His death appears suspicious yet seems to surprise no-one, for Derceto is widely reputed to be haunted by an evil power

    They are coming! I have freed hellish forces and now the price must be paid. Derceto is the prey of evil. The sun has set. They will find my body but will not have my soul. I can imagine the master's fury and the terrof in the hearts of his slaves. I hear their footsteps. Some may understand what I have done. May God forgive me. Farewell. Jeremy Hartwood.
