Being that they are so large, how many chromosomes do elephants have?

I don't know how many chromosomes an elephant has but it is nothing to do with size. I know that not all mammals have the same number of chromosomes. I think that humans have about 46 but it could be slightly more or less. I presume elephants have around the same number.

Yes, human beings have 23 pairs of chromosomes. Most mammals have a similar number, but not necesarily the same. Haven't found a web site with the answer yet!

An elephant has 56 chromosomes. Interestingly a mammoth had 58.
