In the UK, it is illegal for anyone to give alcohol to an under 5 except on medical grounds (and authorisation). Yes, 5. 5 and above may drink alcohol given to them (or pinched from an unguarded bottle or can - a small cousin learned caution after filching an opened can from her dad and regretting it a bit....) To do it on licensed premises is a different matter. 16 with a meal is the lowest for purchase, but 5 is the lower limit in outdoor bits of the pub as they are not the licensed premises, Otherwise, without a meal it's 18 in pubs and offies. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legal_drinking_age
