    		I don't know why so many people should be so surprised at 'John Wayne' being originally Marion. It's simply the English equivalent of Mario, and the female version should be Marian. As with other names, the male version has been given to females (either by mistake or deliberately), and this has countered the application to males of these names. Why some names can be used by either without any problem (Lee for example), and others cause 'surprise' and comment, I don't know. http://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/1/Marion (Baloo is not called Marion, but one of his names is often a 'problem' one.)
