In World War II, what country did the United Kingdom declare war against, but the United States did not?

Question #105905. Asked by clemmydog. (May 28 09 11:25 AM)

While the United States fought alongside England in World War II, Great Britain had declared war on Germany, but it was the Germans who declared war on the United States.

True ghosttowner, but I'm looking for another ww2 combatant against which the UK conducted combat operations but no declaration of war, from either side was made by the United States.

Well maybe Yugoslavia, a member of the Axis powers for 2 days in 1941 (according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Axis_Powers )

Thereafter it was broken up into puppet states & occupied by other Axis powers.

I get the feeling the answer is a country that was either out of the war, or switched sides, before the attack on Pearl Harbor in December '41.

    Perhaps the Soviet Union?

In the early part of the war they invaded Poland as well. But by the time the USA joined the war, Germany had turned on them.

    Right, you must mean Finland.

"The United Kingdom declared war on Finland on 6 December 1941, followed by its Dominions shortly afterwards."

"The United States did not fight or declare war against either party, but sent substantial matériel to the Soviet Union for use in the war effort against Germany and its allies"
