One would normally shuck them off with no quarter, so to speak, but find an extra one in the right spot and you could make a mint or at least enough to buy a lot of cheesehead hats. What year should you watch out for?

    Question #106679. Asked by edmund80. (Jun 28 09 9:06 AM)

    Verbonica

Look for the "presence of an extra cornstalk leaf on the 2004-D Wisconsin State Quarter. These quarters appeared to possess an extra "leaf" added to the ear of corn on the Wisconsin reverse side design. Apparently, there are two varieties, one with the "leaf" pointing down, and the other with the "leaf" pointing upward."

Correct. The year in question, as you have mentioned, is 2004.

"As many as 50,000 of the faulty coins, 50 times the amount earlier thought, entered circulation in 2004 after the coins were produced and bagged during an operator's break, according to the Treasury Department's Office of Inspector General. The flawed Wisconsin coins, which have sold for thousands of dollars, appear to have an extra leaf on the left side of an ear of corn."
