The Beatles unveiled their brand of psychedelia on the Rubber Soul album, which featured John Lennon's first paean to universal love ("The Word") and a sitar-laden tale of attempted hippy hedonism ("Norwegian Wood", written by John Lennon).

On the Sargeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club album, there stands as the most obvious song (for many) as the first "psychedelic" song recorded by the Beatles: "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds"...it's gone into via the link.
Inspired by Lennon's son's title of a drawing he did, yes, but Lennon himself says he was (it was 1966) so deeply into taking LSD himself at that time, he didn't feel he paid enough attention in the studio then; felt it all could have been even better. Lots of innovation there still.
