    		"Elsa Maxwell (1883-1963), an American writer and professional hostess famous for giving lavish and animated parties which feted the high-society and entertainment personalities of her day, is credited with inventing the Scavenger Hunt in the 1930's as a party game. Maxwell devised many novelties to keep her guests amused."
