Are pancakes, hotcakes, flapjacks and griddlecakes all the same thing? No fair calling IHOP!

    Question #107194. Asked by 29CoveRoad. (Jul 19 09 12:12 AM)

Here is a website that describes several different types of these edibles...

In my mind, the four named types are all very similar... crepes are another type of pancake, but are much thinner than the four named in this question.

Flapjacks are quite different in the UK and made of oats stuck together with syrup

Backing satguru up, in the UK pancakes are of two sorts. One is large thin things (more solid than crepes) usually sprinkled with lemon and sugar and rolled up. Other fillings are used too, including jam or savouries. The other (often called Scotch pancake) is much thicker, but very much smaller in diameter. Once again, lemon and sugar or jam is spread on top. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pancake
Flapjacks are thinner than brownies but thicker than pancakes, and rectangular - and not cooked in a frying pan or on a griddle. A somewhat similar thing is the muesli bar, but these contain strange stuff reminiscent of the bottom of a birdcage and tend to be very dry. A good flapjack is almost sticky, and moist in texture (and doesn't leave you feeling as though you need to dash off for rehydration...).
