    How did the G O P, aka, The Grand Old Party, come to represent the Republican Party?

    After the Civil War, the Republicans firmly believed that they were the party that won the war. Now that they found their place in the federal government, they were dubbed the "Gallant Old Party", shorted to "Grand Old Party" then becoming an acronym, GOP.
