Yes. One such war, the "Football War" occurred in 1969 between the Honduras and El Salvador after a qualifying game for the 1970 World Cup. Already high tensions due to border disputes became war on July 14th between the two countries. While it only lasted four days, the final peace treaty wasn't signed until 1980.

It [the war] was caused by political conflicts between Hondurans and Salvadorans, namely issues concerning immigration from El Salvador to Honduras. These existing tensions between the two countries coincided with the inflamed rioting during the second North American qualifying round for the 1970 FIFA World Cup.

This would make the sporting event not the cause of the war but perhaps a catalyst.
