Moisture (of any kind) not allowed to properly dry...can ruin most forms of straw; hats and bales included:
Excessive heat can dry out Straw hat fibers, and cause permanent damage to both straw and felt. Moisture can cause loss of shape, mold, or rot. Even a hat left in a hot car is likely to suffer damage from heat and humidity.
