    Who invented the fire escape?

    		J.B. Winters invented the fire escape ladder May 7, 1878. He is also listed as J.W. Winters.

    However also found that it was Harriet Tracy in 1883. Have seen more listings for Winters though so I'd go with that one.

    		The invention of the exterior steel staircases is widely credited to Anna Connelly who first registered a patent for a fire escape in the USA in 1887.
