    In January 1778, George Washington's army was training at Valley Forge. Their Inspector General was a man named Thomas Conway. Conway, with a few other high-ranking American officers, created what is known as a cabal (alliance) to replace George Washington in command of the Continental Army. It backfired, strengthening Washington's authority. This was called the Conway Cabal.
