    St. Linus, second Pope, was martyred on September 23, and his feast day is still celebrated on that date: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pope_Linus

    Earth Overshoot Day, or Ecological Debt Day, represents the date on which humanity starts "deficit spending" the resources available that year. In 2008 it fell on September 23, as calculated by the New Economics Foundation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth_Overshoot_Day
