    A friend assures me that an eighties pop video features people in Venetian costumes and metal masks playing violins by a river. Which song's video is she talking about?

    		The "violins by a river" bit reminded me of "Never Tear Us Apart" by INXS, but it was filmed in Prague, and kinda shy on Venetian costumes and masks.

    		After a little more online research I'm guessing she must mean early 80s pop-classical fusionists Rondo Veneziano and La Serenissima, though Odissea Veneziana has the same theme on the record cover. Rather than people on a river, it appears to be an animation about an astronaut rescuing Venetian buildings and a robot orchestra from the ravages of the sea, but the violins, metal faces, Venetian connection and the early 80s all fit so the chances are good:
