While reporting on the events of the President's death, a local reporter called the pocket pistol used to commit the crime a Derringer, misspelling the name with two r's instead of one "r". The clone makers of the Deringer took this and ran with it, using this as the name of their clone Deringer pistols. Today there are several different manufactures of Henry Deringer's Pistol all using the name "Derringer ".

In the 1930's a group of people spelled together a 4-letter word in an original way. Back then, that this group spelled this word was not shocking. This group never spelled it again, and if they did it now it would be most shocking indeed. Four years later, another group of people spelled the exact same word in pretty much the same way as the first group, and to this day they spell this word, usually about once a week during the fall, and spelling this 4-letter word is not shocking to them at all. What's the word?
