I put the answer in an envelope, and left it on your windshield.
If the person is armed solely with your email address,
then tracking you down would be mostly a matter of how well you yourself have protected yourself. Someone could do an internet search of that email address, and might find a webpage listing of something innocuous like a charitable event you were involved with, which says contact "Ed Zbeckabee" at the email address, etc.
Bolt the door, hide in the SW corner of the basement.
Otherwise, it would be practically impossible for just anyone to track you down with just the email addy, and would require a disclosure by the email or internet service provider which legally would take a court order.
Unless they hacked the ISP, or they worked in some sort of law enforcement with access that they could then could then circumvent the law and procure it illegally.
If someone can determine your IP address, which may come from receiving an email, it really doesn't get them any closer, other than *possibly* determining your city and state. (depends on the address/server) It would still take the ISP to cough up the info, via court order/LE.

All of which means law enforcement agents and hackers can.
And maybe meter attendants--I'll put a nickel in for you as soon as I leave my note under your other wiper.
From Leo, Datsme's buddy:
i am going to be sending an e-mail to someone not threating or hostile, i will be letting someone know someone is cheating........... can they trace the hot mail or yahoo account.

The average person cannot.
Law enforcement almost certainly can.

Oh, wait--that wasn't a parking meter--it was your lawn sculpture: your car's at home, where your computer lives.
