I was just going to post a correction to the question! For a moment, I'd forgotten the place in Manitoba. Not the Gimli I'm seeking, sorry.

Gimli is a fictional character from J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth legendarium, featured in The Lord of the Rings.

Nice one, Jane. (Sorry, serpa - where not who... Baloo might forget Manitoba, but he's usually careful about wording.) Also the name of a gold roofed hall in Asgard where the righteous went after death. Presumably a bit tidier and also quieter than Valhöl. Depends on your tastes, I suppose. I think Norse mythology must be unique in having the end of the world and everything set in the past rather than in the future - or is it prophetic? Never been sure on that one.

You mean something from Gimlet's Dwarf Delicatessen on Cable Street? They do a good rat'n'ketchup....

In modern Norwegian the place is called Gimle.
Ironically, this is also the name Vidkun Quisling gave to his residence in Oslo during WW2. (Now called Villa Grande).
