Captain Lawrence 'Titus' Oates (1880–1912) was the member of Captain Scott's Antarctic expedition who walked out of the tent during a blizzard saying "I am just going outside and may be some time". His nickname refers to Titus Oates who was responsible for the 'Popish Plot' in 1678 which led to a witchhunt of Catholics.
