UK (and Australian) Smarties are chocolate, covered with a colored sugar shell. Yhey come in a range of colors, and have, at times, had flavored chocolate - light brown was coffee/chocolate, orange was orange/chocolate.

In the United States, however, Smarties are a hard tablet candy, in a range of colors with supposedly different flavors. "Each package contains an assortment of pastel colors, including white, red, orange, yellow, green and purple, however blind taste tests on a small group of adult subjects indicate that individuals perceive essentially the same flavor regardless of any differences in chemical composition (dyes, artificial flavors)." Canadian ones apparently have a more pronounced flavor. Nobody seems willing to commit as to details of the supposed flavors!

The original fruit flavors of Skittles were grape, lemon, lime, orange and strawberry.
