In 2006, CANBERRA released two electric cryocoolers
based on new (for germanium detector cooling) but
proven technologies. They are the Cryo-Cycle™ Hybrid
Cryostat and the Cryo-Pulse™ 5 Electrically Refrigerated
Cryostat. Both of these cryo-coolers eliminate the need to
continually maintain detector LN2 levels, are quiet and low
maintenance, and use 325 watts or less of power. As a
testament to their advanced technology and reliability, they are
both offered with a 5-year, pro-rated parts and labor warranty.
In 2007, CANBERRA extended the Cryo-Pulse 5 technology
to a portable, battery-powered germanium spectroscopy
system called the Falcon 5000® Portable HPGe-based
Nuclear Identifier. It includes the detector, cryostat, digital
signal processing electronics and multichannel analyzer – all
in one unit – and can be operated wirelessly from a Tablet PC
using the Genie™ 2000 suite of spectroscopy software.
These three cryo-cooler products offer similar application
flexibility to the various shapes and sizes of LN2-based
Dewars/cryostats previously discussed.
