    What is a green bomber?

Question #110518. Asked by serpa. (Nov 05 09 9:33 PM)

This creature is one of at least five new "green bombers"--deep-sea, swimming worm species armed with "bombs" (indicated by arrow) that glow a brilliant green when dropped.

The glowing bombs are thought to distract predators such as fish, allowing the worms to escape.

"There are no other annelids that have structures like this," said Karen Osborn, a marine biologist at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in California. The annelids make up a large category of marine and terrestrial segmented-worm species, including common earthworms.

I heard David Attenborough being asked this question on Australian radio a few years back. He was stumped - other than to suggest a type of cat that grows mould in its fur and even he admitted that this was cheating! So the question is this - There are green fish, green insects, green birds, and green reptiles, but are there any green mammals? And if not, why not?

We usually think of this stuff as red. Not red-red, just red. But this time it's green, and is actually a surname, not a plastic. (Beware red herrings.) Well, so he's green, but his son was neither a Roman nor a boxer. His cousin, however, was part of a triumvirate, no measly little trio, though certainly not Roman. So, who *are* the Roman and the boxer and the triumvir? And, especially, who's green?

Why is Spock's skin green? I know he has green blood but that is not the reason his skin is green.
