NASA said Friday (today) it had discovered water on the moon, opening "a new chapter" that could allow for the development of a lunar space station.
The discovery was announced by project scientist Anthony Colaprete at a midday news conference.
"The discovery opens a new chapter in our understanding of the moon," the space agency said in a written statement shortly after the briefing began.

There's water on the moon -- and not "just a little bit," NASA scientists announce. When the space agency crashed a probe into the moon's south pole last month, it created a debris plume that contained "a significant amount" of water ice, they say. Earlier NASA missions had found just trace amounts of water.

So, prior only "trace" amounts of water had been found; today it was announced that "significant" water was found.
